As busy moms the last thing we want is for cold and flu season to hit the household.

Whenever one of my kids gets sick we all do.

…and taking care of 3 kids with the flu is not easy, especially if mom is sick too.

So, it’s good to be prepared with an emergency cold and flu kit that’s simple to put together and effective when you need it!

How can I make a cold and flu emergency kit?

Making a cold and flu emergency kit works best if you have practical items in your kit that are going to be super helpful when the kids start getting sick!

Having the essentials you need to care for your kids will save you a trip to the store.

Here are some of our favorite emergency kit items.

Hover over the image below for more information about these products and how you can purchase them at Walgreens

Children’s and Infant MOTRIN®*– I always like to keep Children’s and Infant MOTRIN® in my emergency kit. We have 3 kids at different ages. It’s good to be prepared with the correct type of
MOTRIN® if one or more of them get sick. (*Use only as directed)

I like to stock up on essentials like Children’s MOTRIN® at Walgreens for my emergency kit. Walgreens is the only store that carries all flavors of Children’s MOTRIN®, which is great because my kids are picky.

We love that Children’s MOTRIN® is dye-free and clinically proven to provide quick & safe relief!

Through 12/15 with your Walgreens card, you can purchase Tylenol or
MOTRIN®, Children’s or Infant Pain & Fever Relief products for $6.99 (.5 oz, 4 oz. and 24 ct.) and $8.99 (1 oz. and 2. oz)

Herbal Tea Bags– It always helps to have a warm cup of herbal tea when your sick. We usually keep a few bags in our kit just in case.

Lip Balm– Lips get chapped easily when you’re sick. Especially if you have the flu and are losing fluids. I like to keep lip balm on hand for this.

Thermometer– Monitoring your child’s temperature gives you peace of mind and can be handy for knowing when it’s time to call the doctor.

Tissues and Wipes– Nasal congestion, sneezing, and coughing are all part of getting sick. Don’t get caught without something to clean things up. I like to keep tissues and wipes for this reason!

Books to Read– Put some good read-aloud books in your emergency kit. My kids love to listen to me read to them when they’re sick. Interesting stories that keep their attention away from not feeling good work great.

Bonus Tip– Keep your emergency kit in a basket or zipable bag, so it’s easy to move around. This is great if you travel a lot.

We will put our emergency kit in our van when we travel for easy access!

What if I don’t have a cold and flu survival basket?

If you get caught without your cold and flu emergency kit don’t panic.

Just recently we were traveling for Thanksgiving and forgot our cold and flu emergency kit!

Of course our kids started getting sick.

I was really grateful to have a local Walgreens nearby because I knew they were open 24 hours and would have Children’s MOTRIN® in in stock!

It’s so nice having the peace of mind that even if you don’t have your emergency kit with you Walgreens will be open with the essentials you need.

Luckily we were able to get our kids better to go on a zoo visit before our trip ended!

Why is a cold and flu emergency kit so Important?

It’s important to keep a cold and flu emergency kit on hand, so you don’t get caught off guard when your family starts getting ill.

Going to the store can be difficult when you have little ones that are sick. Having supplies ready to go can save the stress.

*Use as directed.
