Are you thinking of starting a mom blog?
A little over a year ago that was me too. Thinking and thinking about starting a mom blog.
I had been reading about blogging for years because for years I researched all sorts of different ways to make an income from home including blogging.
I read hundreds of articles like this one and thought, no that can’t be me. I’m not a good enough writer, I know nothing about website design, I can’t build a social following, this will never bring me any income.
But, one day, I did it.
I actually mustered all the courage I could and started my very own mom blog.
Finally, I put faith in myself and my dream and I started something of my own. This day changed my life, for the better!
(This post contains affiliate links. However, all content is my own.)
Now, a little over a year later I am empowered. I am a momtrepreneur, making an income from my mom blog and making my dream of being a stay at home mom an actual reality.
After 6 months I finally started making money and this last month I made a little over $1,500, just from blogging.
I wanted to share any mom with a dream of starting a blog as a stay at home mom how I did it because it is possible to make an income at home with your babies through blogging.
When I started my blog I was very low income. I had just had a baby and left my temporary job as a librarian to stay at home full time with my baby and be more present for my son who was struggling in school at the time.
I knew I wanted to start a WordPress blog, but I needed a host with an option for a monthly payment. That’s where Hostgator saved my life.
I’ve been with them ever since and have never had a problem! Their support staff is so helpful too.
Here is exactly how I started my blog with screenshots to follow along.
This is how I got started on HostGator. There are several other hosting options if you would like to go a different route.
I personally haven’t had any experience with any other hosting service and haven’t felt the need to change. But, I’ve heard good things about both Blue Host and Site Ground as alternatives to HostGator.
I did everything through HostGator from buying my domain name, setting up a hosting plan, to getting started on WordPress.
Don’t hesitate to call their support during the process. They are very friendly and willing to help with any aspect of creating and running your blog.
Here are some simple steps with easy to follow images so you can get started on WordPress with Hostgator.
1. Getting Started-
2. Pick a Plan- I chose the baby plan because I knew I might want to start another blog down the road and it includes unlimited domains.
3. Setting Up Your Account
If you don’t have a domain name already. It’s very easy to set it up with HostGator. Just search for the name you want in the top search bar. It only cost me $12 to buy sammyapproves.com and I pay $12 for it annually.
Here you can also choose to pay in advance or pay monthly. Paying monthly has really helped with my financial situation. Eventually I want to move to paying a year in advance.
HostGator offers extra services. I personally didn’t select any of these. I use the Wordfence and IThemes Plug-Ins for my site security.
Don’t forget to enter a coupon code for extra savings. I get codes in my email often and will update this post with any current codes. I don’t have a code as of now, but keep checking back.
As you can see by the total. Starting a blog for under $30 is very doable! It’s such an easy investment in yourself towards making money as a stay at home mom!
Once you get started on HostGator you should get an email with log-in information to your cpanel. Log-in to your cpanel and select Get Started With WordPress Today. It will walk you through setting up WordPress and you will be on your way to blogging!
Are you thinking of starting a blog? Is there anything holding you back? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
If you have any questions about my blogging journey or how to get started on WordPress with HostGator I would be happy to answer them as best I can. Just ask in the comments or contact me by email!

HEllo I have a website blog already with WordPress, but how do I start making money off it? I have been blogging already on it for almost a month. I don't have the free edition, I have the personal plan.
Hi there,
I am a soon to be stay at home mom. My daughter is almost 4 months now. It has always been my dream to stay home and raise my kids . I have been researching different ways to make money and I came across your blog. I never even thought about doing something like this...I didn’t even know you could get paid for blogging! Do you see someone like me, who is not tech savvy, being successful blogging? I guess what I want to know is....how difficult is it to blog? Can anyone do it? Thank you for your time and I’m so glad I came across your blog!
Hi Elizabeth, I really think anyone could blog if they put their mind to it. It takes a lot of patience, persistance, and willingness to learn new things. It also takes time to start earning an income. Good luck on your journey!
Hi ,
This may be a silly question, but I'm wondering why you need a 'host' at all? I went all through Wordpress for my blog for free. I don't make any money off it but I would love to. What is the purpose of having a host and I'm looking forward to your posts on making money from blogging.
Thanks :)
Hi Ashley! There are a lot of pros to hosting if you are looking to start earning money from your blog. On a free account you don't own your website, so it can potentially be deleted or taken from you once you started earning money. Some ad networks require you to have a self hosted site, which is a source of income. There is also more freedom to customize your site with different themes and plug-ins that aren't available on a free Wordpress site. I hope this helps. :)
Hi!
I am super interested in starting a blog, I am hoping to start my journey to motherhood soon, and want to have a decent income for those couple months, and beyond... I live in canada, and have noticed there isn't as many mommy and babby blogs or youtube channels as there is for people in the states.
I'm also looking at starting a youtube vlog channel, but we'll see :)
Any advice would be great!

Hi Dale, That's so great that you are thinking of getting into blogging. I think there is definitely room for anyone who has a passion for it. I think reading as much as possible is a great way to start. A quick search on Pinterest can lead you to most any information from setting up Wordpress to writing your first post. Once you've decided on a name and what you want to write about just go for it. Blogging support groups on Facebook are great to guide you through. If you have any questions in particular feel free to email me at sammyr@sammyapproves.com I would be happy to answer the best I can!
Thanks for sharing this amazing info. I love reading your articles.
Thanks Solowayne! I'm so happy it helped. :)

Hi Holiday! I definitely need to get some more posts up about making money through blogging. There is too much to explain in a comment, but is a great source of income.
