Are you excited for family vacations this summer?

Traveling with kids is the best! But, what if you have an established routine?

Routines are a big thing in our home. So, I know that travelling and going away from your daily routine can be a little bit scary.

Here are a few of the things that worry me:

  • Will my kids fall back into our routine when we get home?
  • Are my kids getting the structure and attention they need while we’re travelling?
  • Do my kids understand they need to follow the same rules when we aren’t at home?

Do you have these same fears?

Breaking routine can be especially harder for parent’s of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers who thrive on routine. My two year old needs her routine!

But, sticking to a routine with your kids while in an unfamiliar place can pose a ton of challenges.

If you are planning on travelling soon and are worried about losing your routine, make sure to check out the tips below.

Clever Ways to Stick With Kids Routines on Summer Vacations

  • Stay close to restaurants & attractions

Book a hotel room that’s nearby attractions. That makes it easy to run back for any needed nap times. Getting back in time for bed is also easier if you are staying close. It’s great to have a close restaurant or room service sometimes if you are trying to fit dinner in before your scheduled bedtime.

  • Pack Bedtime Essentials

Do your kids get a bedtime story or sleep with a favorite stuffed animal. Bringing these things brings some normalcy to your routine while you are away from home.

  • Discuss Rules Before Travel

Make sure your kids know that the rules for your vacation are the same as they are at home. You may have more travel rules that you should go over before you leave. Try to keep your discipline routine similar to your normal routine. They may need to be tweaked a bit, but you can still have simple consequences that work for traveling.

  • Prepare for the Unexpected

It’s always good to be prepared for unexpected occurrences while travelling with kids. Having a late bedtime or a missed nap has a high likelihood of happening.  Stick to your routine as best you can, adjust it and take the unexpected in strides.

Kids are eating all kinds of different foods on the road so tummy troubles definitely might interfere with your routine.

Probiotics are great for kids before, during, and after travelling to keep their digestive tract healthy! We love Align Jr. probiotics because they are from the makers of Align and come in a chewable cherry flavor. We also like to have healthy snacks to eat on the road to keep our routine somewhat normal.
