Traveling with the family is a wonderful way to explore the world together. Having Fun Travel Activities for Children is just another way to ensure that your trip will be a smooth as possible. The great thing about the following activities are that they can be used whether you are traveling by car or plane… which means that once you have this plan in place, you can use it over and over and over again! Bring on the family vacations!
Flying is a great mode of transportation because of the time you save when traveling and with children.. time matters! However, controlling your little ones while in a contained space can be tricky. At the same time, while road trips allow more volume flexibility and the ability to stop as needed; it is still a small space. And there is only so long that you’ll want to be answering repetitive questions (#thelifeofaparent). Having a list of fun trip games and activities will provide the quiet and preoccupation that is needed for all the passengers!
Travel Games for Kids:
Besides taking in the beautiful scenery of passing greenery or of fluffy clouds and the twinkling cities below; there are plenty of activities that you can do. Laughing, joking, and playing games like our License Plate Word Search Travel Game help to make the time speed by during a road trip. However, there are also plenty of “quiet” activities that you can find for your airplane ride. Playing exciting plane games is an easy way to help your children enjoy the time while remaining respectful of the other passengers in your shared space.
Movies:
Need about 30 min to 1 ½ hrs of quiet? A movie sounds like a great idea! Bring along some favorites or grab a few new ones to celebrate the occasion. Watching movies onto your IPad or another device will make the time fly by! Remember to bring along a pair of comfortable headphones for the little ones if you’d like to take advantage of some uninterrupted adult conversation or for your air travel.
Hand Held Games (be sure to limit the time of visual simulation):
If your child doesn’t already have a hand-held game system, don’t worry. There are a TON of free online games that you can find on your phone or ipad. They even have apps specifically for road trips! If traveling by plane, be sure to use these electronic devises only after the flight attendant has said it’s okay to do so.
Audio Stories:
These can be found at almost any bookstore or library with selections for all ages. You can also download free audiobooks online at these websites and more: www.audiobooksonlinestore.com, www.audiobooks.com, https://librivox.org.
Music:
Bringing a child’s favorite cd can be as soothing as bringing your own music along. Whether it is a lullaby for nap and quiet time or high-energy songs to sing with, you can’t go wrong with some good music. If the cd just happens to be one that drives you crazy, try listening in small doses ;) Comfortable headphones are best when traveling in shared environments. Although, if you have a little singer on your hands, you may want to wait to start the tunes until you’re off the plane. Lol!
Coloring & Drawing:
No matter how much we grow in technology, nothing beats crayons and a coloring book. Create or purchase a traveling tray to color on or, when given approval by the flight attendant, pull down the tray table for a ready-made desktop.
Sleep:
The best way to pass the time is to snooze. Sleep will relax the body and help you to wake up refreshed and ready for the adventure ahead. The best part it is that parents, who probably need it the most, can participate too! Although, for road trips, you’ll have to take turns. :)
