Top 5 Holiday Travel Tips!

Are you traveling during the holidays this year?

Our kids have grandparents out of city and state, so we have done our fair share of holiday travel trips. Each of these trips come with their own set of challenges as road trips with kids often do.

1. An Awesome Holiday Playlist

My husband and I love listening to music during our road trips. During the holidays it’s great to put together a fun playlist of Christmas songs or just a mix of songs the whole family can sing along to. If you need some inspiration do a quick Google search to see the new or top holiday songs for the year.

This is a great way to speed up an otherwise boring drive for everyone!

2. Pack Light

I’m an overpacker which has at times led us to have luggage stuffed on our laps or under the kids seats in the car. The more cramped the car is the less happy everyone is.

Remedy this by only packing what you will really need on your holiday trip. Not only will your passengers thank you, it will be easier to unpack everything when you get to your destination.

3. Keep the Kids Entertained

Make sure you have plenty of things to keep your little ones of all ages entertained. I usually bring a little bag of board books for my toddler and something to keep my 8 year old son entertained on the drive.

Road trip scavenger hunts are always fun. Since my son, Jonas, is still growing in his reading skills, this is a great way for him to practice his reading on our drive.

4. Beat the Holiday Traffic

If you are taking a holiday road trip, strategize the times you will be on the road. Sometimes leaving early in the morning or late at night can save you the headache of navigating through traffic.

This tip really comes in handy for us since we live in California and sometimes need to beat the Los Angeles traffic when traveling.

5. Prepare For Holiday Mishaps

So many things can go wrong during your holiday vacation, so be prepared. I like to keep a little emergency bag in our car to help us in those tough situations.

In our holiday travel kit we keep Lactaid for my husband who has tummy troubles sometimes from dishes with milk. So handy to have for holiday meals!

I also keep bandaids, floss, and tissues for the times I find myself having allergies or a winter cold!

It’s so easy to find all of these travel essentials, like Lactaid and Pepcid AC, at Walmart! We made sure to get stocked up for our holiday meals this year.
