As a stay at home mom sometimes it can be difficult to find ways keeping our toddler entertained all day. I’ve found that having a toddler routine or variations on a set schedule works wonders.
Toddlers are busy creatures that really need something to do at all times or else mischief WILL follow. My toddler can get a lot done in the span of a 3 minute restroom break for mom… and those things are always very exciting.
Mustard squirted all over the kitchen floor anyone? Flour sprinkled all over the dog? Piano keys colored with washable markers?
I’m on my 3rd toddler, so I think I may have seen it all. 🤣
You’d be surprised how much toddler routines for morning, afternoon, and night can change tantrums, mischief, and overall happiness around.
Toddlers love routines and they really aren’t that hard to make. All you need is a set time for meals, sleep, learning, and stories. Add some activity ideas to throw into your routine and you are all set.
There are plenty of easy things you can use to fill up your toddlers day. Naps are great for mom to recoup and get some much needed me time or one on one time with older kids.
Meals– Of course your toddler needs breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. But, trying to make these consistently at the same time let’s your toddler know when to expect them. They will also come to expect sleep time easier too.
Story Time– Stories are a big part of our routine. We have several story times throughout the day. Reading books is a great way to add learning to your day.
We love reading books that teach things like shapes, letters, and numbers in a fun way. This is a Book of Shapes by Kenneth Kraegel is one of our daily favorites!
This book teaches shapes in a fun and cute way that will have your toddlers cracking up.
Remember to make story time fun. It doesn’t just have to be at bedtime or in the house. My kids love taking some blankets out to the trampoline outside and reading books to each other! It’s so cute and fun for our toddler too.
Play– Incorporate some activities in your day. Crafts are great, but sometimes it’s easier to go for a walk, get some toys out to play, or take a picnic lunch and bring some books to read together at the park.
Sleep– Make sure you stay consistent and flexible with bed and nap times. Your toddler is growing, so their nap might not stay the same. But, try to keep it at the same time of day they like to have it, so they expect it and can transition into the next thing.
Don’t forget to keep transitioning routines the same too. Stories, bath, brushing teeth should always be done before bed if that’s part of you’re routine.
