The Funnest Toddler Activities At LEGOLAND California

This past week we went to San Diego on a fun family vacation and I am so excited to share with you some of our adventures.

One of our San Diego days was spent at LEGOLAND. Jonas had wanted to go so badly since the LEGO Ninjago ride had opened and we were so happy to get the chance to take him.

The last time we went to LEGOLAND he was around 5 years old and wasn’t as into all the LEGO character’s. So, this trip it was so much fun seeing the excitement on his face as he told us about every LEGO character we encountered and all about Ninjago before the ride.

Most of my LEGOLAND day was spent keeping our toddler (Juliana) entertained because she wasn’t tall enough to ride most of the rides. Luckily there is lots to do at LEGOLAND for little ones and I wanted to tell you all about my experience in finding fun toddler activities for her throughout our day.

Lego Duplo Play Areas

I saw at least 2 LEGO Duplo play areas during our day at LEGOLAND and Juliana loved them!

These play areas are great for mom to sit down and relax while your toddler can run around and play. There are tubs of LEGO Duplo bricks that they can build, stack, and carry to other LEGO tubs. Juliana loves taking things out and putting them in boxes and containers at home so this was perfect for her.

Juliana has been very adventurous lately and had no problem climbing right inside the giant tub of LEGO’s to play.

There were also other toddlers there for her to play with! So much fun for her to get interaction with other little ones her age while we waited for big brother to get off the big kid rides.

Castle Hill Hideaway

Both Jonas and Juliana had tons of fun in the Castle Hill Hideaway at LEGOLAND. It is a huge play area that a toddler probably couldn’t climb alone. But, my husband and I got in on the action and had so much fun helping Juliana through the towers and bridges.

When we found this giant pile of rubber LEGO bricks she was in heaven! She and her brother spent about 10 minutes stacking the bricks and building things with other kids. So fun!

Oh, and don’t forget to grab some Granny’s Apple Fries to share with your toddler while you are at Castle Hill. They are sooooo yummy!

Heartlake City

I wish we could have spent some more time in Heartlake City. This is the last place we visited before going home.

Juliana is such a girly girl and loved the carousel horses with the big bows. The LEGO Friends were singing on stage when we walked by and she started dancing to the music. If the park hadn’t been closing I think we could have spent a lot more time there with her!

LEGOLAND Toddler Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s

• Do- Bring a stroller- It’s a big park with lots of walking. LEGOLAND does have strollers for rent.
• Do- Take a look outside- There are tons of cute LEGO statues around the park. Juliana loved looking at the animal ones. Sometimes there are performances outside too that are fun for little ones.
• Do- Check out the toddler play areas. There were lots of LEGO Duplo and toddler play areas throughout the park, even a little splash area in Pirate Shores. Don’t forget a swimsuit (We did and regretted it)!
• Do- Bring lots of snacks and water. It was a hot sunny day when we went in September. I’m glad we brought lots of water to refill Juliana’s sippy cup throughout the day.
• Do- Arrive to the park early! It isn’t open very long and there is lots to see.
• Do- Take advantage of parent swap if you both plan on riding the rides. This will allow one parent to wait while the other rides. The downside to this is that your toddler has to wait in line.

Don’ts

• Don’t- Unless you have a very brave toddler I wouldn’t suggest riding any of the 3-d rides or going into the 3-d shows. I made the mistake of taking Juliana on Ninjago and she was terrified, even without the glasses. We tried to go in the LEGO Movie 3-d and the loud noise scared her there too. I ended up taking her right out.
• Don’t- Forget sunscreen- We brought our favorite sunscreen and re-applied throughout the day. It was very sunny.
• Don’t- If your toddler doesn’t like being in one place long I wouldn’t suggest parent swap. They have to wait in line with you and the lines at LEGOLAND can be very long. My husband and I took turns riding the rides and it worked out great.
