If you live in or are just visiting California Solvang is an awesome place to go with the kids. Solvang is a cute little Danish town full of fun things to see and do.
When I was pregnant with Juliana I wanted to take one more family vacation right before I had her. I booked us a weekend getaway to Solvang a few months before my due date and we had a blast.
For this last trip we stayed at Pea Soup Andersen’s Inn, which was a nice hotel and only walking distance to the popular Pea Soup Andersen’s restaurant. I’m not a huge fan of Pea Soup, but they have other yummy dishes and a fun store. My husband and son on the other hand loved the pea soup and each ate it all up.
The hotel was nice and family friendly. It had a heated pool, which would have been great during our stay, except it was raining most of the time we were there.
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Ostrichland U.S.A. It was a low cost adventure for our little family.
They gave us all bowls of food to feed to the ostriches and emu’s. Jonas really loved this experience and it was fun seeing the Ostriches and Emus run over to get food.
There is also a cool gift shop where you can buy ostrich and emu feathers, eggs, and other fun souvenirs.
We really enjoyed eating at Paula’s Pancake House. If you go make sure to arrive early because there was a large crowd of people waiting to get in when we arrived. Even so they managed to get us in rather quickly.
They serve Danish Pancakes at Paula’s. These pancakes are really unique and tasty. Our whole family loved it! This is a great place to go with kids for a good breakfast that will fill you up.
Near Solvang there is an easy trail to a beautiful waterfall, Nojoqui Falls. We were so excited about seeing this because we love going on family hikes. Plus it was a trail easy enough for Jonas and me, a then pregnant mom to navigate.
Unfortunately the waterfall was blocked off because of a recent mudslide. We did get to hike some of the trail though and it was absolutely beautiful!
I hope to go there again when we can actually see the waterfall.
This is one of our favorite spots for a weekend getaway or even a day trip. These are only a few of the many fun things to do in Solvang.
If you decide to visit Solvang with your family make sure to check out some of the bakeries in town. Each of them have different Danish pastries or just make them a little differently. I always love trying something new every time we go.
Also, I highly recommend taking a family trip before having a new baby. I was tired sure, but that was one of the funnest trips and it made Jonas feel special to spend some quality family time before the baby came.

How fun! I have never heard of Solvang. I am still giggling about Ostrichland USA - what a name! But it looks like so much fun. I bet my kids would love it. Thank you for linking up to Family Joy Blog Link-Up Party. Hope you are having a great week!

This looks like a super place for a family outing.
I had not heard of Solvang, CA before now. It's looks like you and your family had a great time.
We live a few hours from Solvang and try to visit every few years. It's a great vacationing spot! Thanks for stopping by Tammy. :)
This put a big smile on my face. My husband & I visited Solvang when we were married a year which was back in 1974. We had a wonderful time. Now I would have to bring my grandson.
So happy to put a smile on your face! I love Solvang, it is such a cute little town. My kids love all of the Danish buildings, pastries, and the cute shops they have. Thanks for stopping by Susan. :)
It really does look like a nice place to go. If I were closer and had kids would love to go.
Hi Tiffany! It really is a fun little town, even without the kids. :)
