Our kids get bored during the winter, especially when the weather isn’t nice. They are both very imaginative and active, so it’s up to me to find fun indoor winter activities to keep the kids entertained.
There are tons of free ways to have fun with your kids during the winter months and some affordable ones too.
Check out our list of fun ways to keep your children busy inside the house when it starts getting cold outside.
There are plenty of great toddler activities, preschool activities, and rainy day activities your kids can do inside during the winter.
Our local library has great children’s programs during the year for children of all ages. These include story times, puppet shows, sing alongs, crafts, and LEGO clubs to name a few.
These events are always free, which is a great resource for my family. Check out what programs your library has to offer and pick up some books while you’re there.
We have so many parks in our city. Sometimes it’s fun to pick one out we haven’t been to before to go explore. It’s also fun for my kids to go to the parks with ducks so they can feed them.
At the park you don’t have to worry about bringing in outside food and drinks. So you can plan a picnic or just bring snacks to keep the kids fueled while they are running around!
After your winter adventures make sure to stop by Pizza Hut! They have partnered with Fruit Shoot for a great cause, child literacy!

We love visiting different parks around the area. The kids like to explore and the parents like the low cost of a fun day.
Hi Jessica! Low cost is always a plus for me too. Especially during winter and summer vacation when my kids need more constant entertainment.
I enjoyed reading this. At least the activities were indoors. You being a So. Cal. girl, you must not really like the cold. I am a Charleston, SC gal, and I hate the cold.
Hi Audrey! You are correct I hate the extreme cold being from So. Cal. I don't think I would ever survive somewhere where it snows. ;)
I remember as a kid that it would snow and I would be outside all day. As an adult I just want to stay inside where it is warm.
Hi David! I think I am the same way, definitely hate the cold more now than I did as a kid. ;)
We have a membership to Wildlife Safari, it's a great place to enjoy the wildlife and giveback to help them at the same time. Thanks for the tips!
What a fun membership! You are right, it's so nice to give back to the animals and have a place to take your kids at the same time. Thanks for stopping by Brenda!
Sammy, those year round memberships do pay off. My daughter joins a pool in the summer for about $125. They go 1-3 times a week and it makes for a great summer. Along with a zoo membership and one to the local children's museum, they have great wholesome recreational activities for a fraction of the price of a family vacation.
Hi Sinea! I am loving the year round membership for our zoo. I want to look into more for the summer for sure. Great way to get the kids out of the house.
