Creative Ways to Keep Kids Entertained All Summer | Free Summer Survival Guide

“Mom I’m Bored”

School has only been out for 1 day and already I’ve heard this phrase. Good thing I had some things up my sleeves to keep my kiddos entertained when the boredom sets in.

To save the sanity of other moms I thought I would share some ways to keep your kids busy over the summer!

Creative Ways to Keep Kids Entertained All Summer

  • Summer Reading Program-

I’m so passionate about utilizing our public libraries for our kids. First of all they are a free resource! Most libraries put a ton of resources into entertaining programs and incentives for kids during the summer. Check out what your local library has to offer. It just may be the free alternative to summer camp that you’ve been looking for.

Once I found out what the summer programming was for our local libraries I scheduled them into my summer calendar. Surprisingly there was almost an activity for every day of June and July. Including puppet shows, magic shows, crafts, reptile shows, and LEGO clubs.

  • Plan Kid Friendly Snacks and Crafts

It’s great to keep kid friendly snacks and crafts planned out for the summer. This can be as simple as printing out some coloring sheets or serving some celery sticks with peanut butter. Kids like having special things planned out just for them!

  • Have a Themed Story Time

Make your reading fun during the day with a themed story time. If you want to take it the extra mile, search online for a printable coloring page to go with the story theme or make a themed snack. Here are some story themes and books you could use for summertime:

      • Swimming
      • Sunshine & Summer
  • Take Nature Walks

    • Take your kids on nature walks around your neighborhood. If the weather is hot you can do this during the early morning. Walk around your neighborhood and look for birds and bugs or find some new trails to explore in your community! You can even write a list of animals or things the kids can see in your area. Have the kids help you look for these things on your walk and check them off as you go.
  • Play With Your Kids

Take advantage of the time you have with your kids during the summer. Learn about the hobbies they like or learn a new skill together.

With little ones you can build a blanket fort, play with toys on the floor, or run in the sprinklers outside. Cherish that family bonding time you get over the summer vacation!
