There’s no doubt that the internet is a scary place!
Keeping passwords, banking/credit card information, and other personal documents protected can be worrisome. But, keeping your children safe online is a whole other level of worry.
Nowadays kids have so many opportunities to misuse the internet, even if they don’t mean to.
It’s important to me to make sure my family is safe from the dangers of the internet, kids included!
Here are 5 easy ways I use to protect my family at home.
When it comes to internet safety and kids it’s good to set limits. You may not want them browsing the internet during times that you aren’t present. Setting screen time limits and discussing with your kids which websites and apps are safe to use are great ways to set limits at home. Your kids should also know that there are sites and apps they shouldn’t be using and how to know if they’ve run into something bad.
Make sure you are always using strong passwords for all accounts. This can be beneficial to you and your entire family. If your bank account, for example, has a strong password you are protecting the financial security of your family.
It’s important that the whole family is on the same page about internet safety. Have a family meeting where you discuss your internet safety rules, how the internet can be potentially dangerous, and about the importance of keeping your information private online and creating a strong password.
Buying a quality firewall device adds an extra layer of protection for your family! We’ve really grown to love our firewall. It’s a fast firewall for your home network that can detect and block malicious viruses, sites, and hacks.
The best part is the protection it offers for your kids. You can use it to prevent your children from visiting harmful sites, track their usage, monitor their social media use, and to control screen time on their devices.
Creating a strong password is important and so is keeping that password private from others. Make sure your family knows how important it is not to share their passwords with friends or others who ask for it.
