Do you have a rainy day things to do list?

It can definitely be hard to entertain the kids on rainy days.

Where will they go to expell their endless amounts of energy when it’s cold and raining?

…and how will you get anything done while you try to entertain them for hours on end indoors when it’s raining outside.

As a work at home, home schooling mom rainy days are tough. Being outside helps my kids focus on learning, reduces boredom, and helps them go to bed and sleep longer.

How can I have fun in the rain with my kids?

As parents our first thought when it’s raining is to find something for the kids to do inside. This is completely understandable to me if it’s freezing cold.

But, what about a rainy day that isn’t too cold?

One of the funnest ways for your toddler to learn and get out extra energy on these days is to let them explore the rain. Let them feel it on their fingers, play, and run in the puddles.

Maria Montessori said in Nature In Education “Let the children be free; encourage them; let them run outside when it is raining; let them remove their shoes when they find a puddle of water; and when the grass of the meadows is wet with dew, let them run on it and trample it with their bare feet; let them rest peacefully when a tree invites them to sleep beneath its shade; let them shout and laugh when the sun wakes them in the morning.”

Story Time– Read some children’s rain books to your kids on a rainy day. Talk to them about rain and where it comes from.

Board Games– Rainy Days are the best time to get out board games and bond with the family.

Paper Boat Race– Make paper boats with your kids and race them down the rain gutters.

Make a Stop Motion Video- Grab some toys and craft supplies to create your own stop-motion video. Our kids made the stop motion video below on one of our rainy days. It’s a fun thing for the whole family to do and it’s cool for your kids to learn how movies are made.

What is your favorite kids activity for bad weather days? Have you ever made a stop-motion video? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
