Not only is Dr. Pepper Cake a pretty easy recipe, but it tastes amazing! Melt in your mouth.

Does soda cake work?
I was skeptical at first too. Soda in a cake!? But, it works wonders if you follow the directions.
In fact this was one of the most fluffy, decadent cakes I’ve had in a long time.
Since doing more research I’ve learned that you can even substitute soda in box cake mixes, which is sooo interesting to me. There are so many possible combinations.

The Best Dr. Pepper Cake Vintage Recipe
There are a lot of steps in this recipe, but trust me the end result is worth it.
I wouldn’t say it’s a hard recipe to make, just a lot of steps.
You can make your frosting before or after your cake is finished.
Serve at a birthday, holiday, BBQ, or family dinner. I promise your family will LOVE it!
P.S. the frosting does have nuts but if you have someone with a nut allergy in the family or don’t like nuts the frosting is just as good without them.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 sticks butter
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 cup Dr. Pepper
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
For the Frosting:
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 16oz box powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 stick butter
- 6 tablespoons Dr. Pepper
Cake Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a greased 9x13baking pan.
- In a medium bowl combine flour and sugar.
- In a medium saucepan heat butter, Dr. Pepper, and cocoa until it comes to a boil. (Whisk and watch so it doesn’t burn)
- Pour Dr. Pepper mixture over the flour mixture and mix together well.
- Beat in your milk, eggs, baking soda, vanilla, and mini marshmallows until combined.
- Pour mixture into your greased baking pan and bake for 30-40 minutes or until a knife comes out smooth.
- Frost cake while hot!
Instructions for Frosting:
- In a small saucepan heat butter, cocoa, and Dr. Pepper until it comes to a boil. (again watch and whisk so it doesn’t burn)
- Stir in powdered sugar and nuts and beat well.
- Spread it on your hot cake.
