Having trouble getting your toddler to sleep?
We’ve all been there! This is my second go ’round with toddler sleep and I’m getting through it while battling baby sleep with my newborn at the same time.
Some nights are tougher than others, but we’ve definitely found that there are some things that help us get on the winning side of battling with our toddler to get some sleep.
Using sleep aids is one way to help your toddler stay asleep through the night.
A lot of times our toddlers are capable of sleeping through the night. They just need a little help to get to sleep and stay asleep.
Are you co-sleeping? Does your toddler wake up in the middle of the night with a wet bed?
Even though we are potty training our daughter we still are using diapers for bed time.
Overnight diapers don’t always protect her through the night without leaks though.
With a newborn too we are in survival mode. Which means that sometimes she co-sleeps with us or gets out of bed in the middle of the night to spend the rest of the night with mom and dad.
I can’t tell you how many nights I’ve woken up with an unexpected warm and wet feeling next to me.
Thank goodness for Sposie diaper booster pads. You just put them in their diaper for double the protection and a dry night with no leaks.
No leaks means more sleep for mom, dad, and toddler! Less laundry too. That’s a win for me!
They have definitely improved our family wellness because I have more time and energy to take care of our newborn at night without having to worry about taking care of any toddler leaks.
Sposie diaper pads are available at Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
Make a schedule for your toddler to go to bed at the same time every night.
I’ve noticed if our kids don’t keep the same bedtime they get overtired and it becomes harder to put them to bed. After a certain time they just can’t shut down.
With a schedule they learn to expect bedtime and be ready to turn off at that time every night.
Reading fun toddler books and singing is a great way to help them go to sleep! They love bonding time cuddled up with their parents.
Every night we read a stack of stories together and sing a few songs. My kids like to take turns reading to me and then I will read to them. Most of the time this puts them right to sleep.
One of my biggest life savers is white noise. You don’t even need a white noise machine to get it.
Sometimes I will just find some white noise on my phone to put on or turn on a noisy fan.
This background noise not only help my toddler to fall asleep, but it helps her stay asleep!
I don’t know about your toddler, but mine likes to cuddle.
Having a stuffed animal or soft blanket to hold helps her feel more secure to fall asleep in her bed!
Don’t give up on getting a good night sleep with your toddler. There are so many different things you can try and if one doesn’t work another will. Sometimes a combination of things helps.
Once you get into your routine things get easier!
Is your toddler sleeping through the night? Which toddler sleep aids have you found most helpful? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Is really white noise still working at this age? I must check! Thanks for that tip. For now I'm following this book: https://www.parental-love.com/shop/toddler-sleep-training and it all looks pretty promising. I've heard this author's book on sleep training babies was very effective but I guess I've missed the moment.
Honestly, I truly believe white noise works at any age. I use it for my 3, 6, and 13 year old. It blocks out the dog barking, my husband and I watching TV, etc. They sleep so soundly!
That's pretty clever with the speaker! But if I get a call - won't it interrupt?
I've just purchased Susan's book about toddler sleep and I think I might find it very helpful. I must check the white noise again!
Hi Joanna! We have two Amazon Echo's for white noise and our phone calls never come through on them. Alternatively they also sell white noise machines that don't connect to your phone or the internet at all. But, I like the Echo because I can change the volume on my phone.
I love parental love Guide In a Nutshell series! Thanks to Susan I've dig up our white noise machine lately when going through another regression and it worked perfectly. I find it weird since it's not very loud but it's working. And hey - the app is not doing as good as the machine.
Hi Marry! White noise is a life saver even with toddlers and kids. If you use an external speaker you can get white noise from your phone to work. They even have different tones if you look on Apple Music or Spotify (Brown noise, pink noise, fan noise). Find the one that works best for you and play around with the volume. It keeps my kids asleep and gives me a more restful sleep too!
Thanks for all the tips! My 22 months old toddlers goes to bed 7pm and normally he wakes up at 6:30 am but lately he is waking up at 5 what should I do?
Hi Laura!
After 3 kids I've learned to just adjust through these phases. Sometimes moving bedtime a little later can help them sleep in a little later. I notice as the summer days grow shorter and the time changes that can mess with sleep schedules.
You can also try white noise to block out noises in the house or outside. I know in our neighborhood we have early morning gardeners that can be problematic.
If all else fails you have an earlier wake up time and are just a little more tired. Make sure to take care of your mental health and hope and pray baby will get back to a better sleep schedule soon! Good Luck!!

Great tips! We, of course, are partial to Sposie Diaper Doublers for all-night comfort. But, white noise is also huge! Thanks so much! <3 the team at Sposie
White noise and Sposie are a great team for a good night sleep! :)
This is such a great idea! We've been using an essential oil diffuser lately for the kids and us. It is so relaxing! -- Sammy
