How Families Can Give Back During the Holidays

I love that there are so many ways families can give back during the holidays!

My son Jonas has been working on a “giving back” project at school this week where each day they do something kind for someone else.

This has been enriching his life in ways that he probably doesn’t see, but I can. Although he is always a very sweet and kind boy, he has taken his project at school a step further at home and has been looking for simple ways to help me around the house and with the baby.

The other day he helped me pick up all his sister’s toys scattered around the living room without question.

Giving back is contagious especially with children!

A lot can be learned from giving back as a family. Your children watch and learn by example, so this is a great way to teach them to give back while enriching their lives and the lives of others.

Here are 10 ways you can give back to others with your family and a free printable list to get you started giving back to others as a family during the holidays!

Choose a few things from the list to do a week!

  1. Bake Cookies For a Stranger
  2. Go Caroling in Your Neighborhood
  3. Buy a Meaningful Gift for a Child in Need
  4. Do Something for a Family Member Without Being Asked
  5. Volunteer
  6. Donate Canned Goods
  7. Make a Homemade Gift For Your Teacher
  8. Visit a Local Nursing Home
  9. Give a Compliment to a Stranger
  10. Donate Old Toys

Giving a Gift to a Child in Need

Right now CARE has a unique opportunity for families to give back to young girls in need. These simple gifts, like water and farm animals, could be life changing!

They have a wonderful catalog that not only highlights the real stories of some of these girls, but shows you different gifts you can purchase for them and how those items can impact their lives for the better.

We looked through this catalog together as a family. What a great teaching moment for our son to see first hand some of the simple things that other children around the globe live without. We are planning on donating some chickens as a part of our mission giving back for the holidays.

One of the stories that struck me most was the story of Maliyana, a  young girl and daughter of a widow. Her main goal is to become a doctor so she can help her mother. To accomplish this goal she spends her time raising goats to pay for school.

Purchasing a goat as a gift through CARE will help her achieve her dream!

Find out how you can donate to these children through CARE and help change lives today!

How do you give back with your family during the holidays? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
