If you’re here, I’m guessing you’re looking for ways to get baby formula without breaking the bank.
Formula feeding is super expensive—trust me, I’ve been there—and if you’re anything like me, you’re always hunting for the best deals and free baby stuff.
Although I breastfed all three of my babies. They all had to be supplemented with formula for weight gain or health issues.
Today, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned about how to score free baby formula, and yes, it’s completely possible to keep the savings coming in even after your baby is born!

Free Baby Formula Samples from Formula Companies
The easiest place to start is by going directly to the companies that make formula, mainly Similac and Enfamil. They have awesome reward programs called MySimilac Rewards and Enfamil Family Beginnings. When you sign up (it’s totally free), you get welcome boxes filled with free formula samples, coupons, and even parenting tips.
Here’s a pro tip—both mom AND dad can sign up! Each family member will receive a box filled with formula samples and high-value coupons. This means more free formula for your baby. Just make sure everyone uses their real names and addresses because these companies do check for duplicates.
Couponing and Combining Deals
One of my favorite ways to save money (and sometimes get formula completely free!) is through coupon stacking.
Each welcome box from Similac or Enfamil comes with checks or coupons ranging from $5 to $20. Here’s how to maximize these coupons:
- Combine Formula Checks with Manufacturer Coupons: Typically, you’ll get $5 checks at first, but as you continue using them, formula companies will send you even higher-value coupons. Pair these with printable or digital manufacturer coupons (often worth $2-$3 each).
- Shop During Sales and Promotions: Stores like Target (Target Circle is great for baby deals), Walmart, and even Amazon frequently run promotions. For example, Target might offer a $10-$15 gift card when you buy two cans of formula. Stack your high-value formula checks with these sales, and you could end up paying next to nothing—or even earning money back to use on other baby essentials!
Get Free Formula Samples from Your Doctor
Your pediatrician or OB-GYN office is a treasure trove of free formula. Formula companies provide doctors’ offices with tons of samples to pass along to new parents.
Don’t forget to take home what you don’t use at the hospital too after delivering baby. You can even ask if they have extra samples.
Here’s my biggest tip: always ask for the powder cans over the ready-to-feed bottles. You’ll get more formula from the cans, which means better value and fewer trips to restock.
And don’t feel shy about asking for samples—even if you don’t have an appointment. Most offices are happy to hand them out because they have plenty in storage. I’ve often swung by my pediatrician’s office and left with several cans just for stopping in!
Special Offers Hidden Inside Formula Samples
Here’s a little secret not everyone knows. Those free cans of formula samples often come with hidden rewards! Inside the lid of certain sample cans, you’ll find inserts with special codes or coupons.
Enfamil has a rewards program where you can redeem these codes online, and Enfamil will send you additional boxes of ready-to-feed formula bottles, coupons, and other rewards completely free!
These offers typically allow only one redemption per person, but again, remember your family members! Grandparents, your partner, and even close friends can redeem these offers, multiplying your formula savings.
Check if You Qualify for WIC (Women, Infants, and Children)
WIC is a government-sponsored program designed to help low income moms, babies, and young children with nutritional needs.
If your household income qualifies, you can receive free or highly discounted formula, baby food, and even fresh produce. It’s a fantastic resource to reduce your grocery bill significantly, so definitely check your eligibility through your local WIC office.
Utilize Local Food Banks and Charitable Organizations
Local food banks, churches, and non-profit organizations often have baby formula available. Call ahead to your nearest food bank or pantry to inquire about their current stock.
They typically have regular donations from stores and private donors, making this an excellent resource if you’re running low or find yourself in a tight spot financially.
Create Baby Registries for Free Samples
Even if you’re on your second, third, or fourth baby, creating a baby registry can lead to more free formula and baby products.
Retailers like Babylist, Amazon, Walmart, and Target offer welcome boxes filled with baby items, including formula samples and coupons, just for signing up for their registry services.
Bonus tip: You don’t even have to share your registry publicly or have a baby shower to receive these benefits!
Facebook and Formula Exchange Groups
There’s a beautiful community of parents online and locally who participate in free exchange groups. Platforms like Free Formula Exchange and local parenting groups on Facebook often allow parents to give away or trade formula.
Search Facebook for Free Mom ________ (Insert your City) and you’re bound to find a group local to you!
Many parents find themselves with extra unopened cans of formula their babies can’t use due to sensitivities or preferences, and they’re happy to give it away for free.
Just make sure you’re checking expiration dates and verifying that cans are sealed and in good condition.
Remember these Safety Reminders
Always check formula containers for signs of damage, discoloration, or tampering, and verify that they’re not recalled. Formula safety is important, so trust your instincts and dispose of anything questionable.
It’s always better to be cautious when it comes to your baby’s health. Especially if you are getting your formula free from an online group. It’s best to check out the can to make sure it’s new and unopened.
I hope these tips help you save tons on baby formula! Being smart about where and how you get your formula can mean hundreds (or even thousands!) of dollars in savings each year.
