Are you scrambling to get everything ready for baby?
I’m 36 weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and we didn’t have a baby shower this time around.
At first I was feeling so confident, I’ve been through this twice and didn’t feel I needed as much this time around.
So, I made the mistake of putting my baby prep off to the last minute. Now that my nesting instinct has kicked in I’m trying to get everything together before this baby comes, including basics like diapers and wipes.
Last Minute Baby Prepping on a Budget
We are on a budget, which doesn’t make last minute prep any easier. Diapers and wipes are expensive and it definitely does help to be stocked up beforehand.
Here are some ways we are prepping on a budget for last minute items.
Taking Advantage of Quick & Free Delivery
Let’s face it, shopping in the third trimester is nowhere near fun. I love the convenience that online shopping brings.
I’m so grateful to live in a time where I can hop onto Walmart’s website and shop for baby products with free 2-day shipping!
Not only is it easy, but there are great prices and the shipping is fast for things you need last minute!
If you can’t wait to get it in two days you can even order through Walmart online and pick it up curbside at the store!
Finding Quality Budget Friendly Baby Products
I mentioned how much I love the fast and free shipping from Walmart above. Another thing I love about shopping online with Walmart is their quality baby brand Parents Choice.
Parent’s Choice diapers and wipes are so easy on my budget. I was able to get a huge box of diapers and wipes for under $50!
I love the amount of savings I get with these products and can use the money I save to purchase other things I need for the baby.
We are getting all stocked up and organized now and it feels so good!
Accepting Gently Used Clothes from Family
Chances are you know somebody who has recently had a baby. My sister was happy to give me a few boxes of gently used clothes for our baby.
This really helped us cut the cost and put more money into diapers and wipes.
Cutting Out Extras
Cut out extras while you’re prepping for the baby. Entertainment or even a morning cup of coffee can equal savings that can go towards baby costs.
Only Getting What’s Necessary
There are lots of baby items that aren’t necessary to have, or you may not need right when the baby comes. Save money by stocking up on the bare necessities first. For example, you definitely need diapers and wipes, but may not need the fanciest diaper pail.
How are you saving on last minute purchases for baby? I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!
Marissa Lopez
You can say it’s not last minute but my husband and I are preparing ourselves a year early financially and clueing ourselves in on different stories of how to prep. Materialistic wise and say for extra money once I’m on leave.

Hi Marissa, That’s a great way to go planning a year ahead. Pregnancy goes by so quickly, so even a year ahead doesn’t give you much time. I definitely love buying in bulk and taking advantage of free shipping. The savings you get will be great to have on hand for maternity leave. Good luck in your planning!
