When I had my first baby at 19 years old I was NOT thinking about setting a baby budget, pregnancy goals, applying for free baby stuff, or the affordability of pregnancy and postpartum supplies. I wasn’t searching for how to get free breastfeeding equipment and baby samples.

Baby costs can really add up. Both during pregnancy and after, for the baby and for yourself.

A study supported by the National Institute of Health showed that financial stress had a significant impact on feelings of postpartum depression.

Navigating baby costs can be done. Once you know what to expect as far as costs then you can learn to manage them, even on a low income.

How can I get free supplies for expecting mothers?

While you’re expecting make sure to take advantage of a powerful resource. Your health insurance!

It’s a little known fact that most health insurance companies will cover expensive supplies for your pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

This is something I didn’t find out until my 2nd baby was in the hospital and a nurse was discussing lactation issues with me. She explained that I should look into getting a free breast pump and I was so happy I did!

Is getting pregnancy and postpartum items through insurance easy?

It can be complicated getting the items you need through insurance.

When I was going through this I was lucky enough to find Yummy Mummy, which helps moms get breast pumps and postpartum supplies through insurance without the stress. They handle the process for you so you can focus on your pregnancy.

I’ve also used Aeroflow for additional postpartum items, but Yummy Mummy made the breast pump process the easiest for me

What free stuff can I get while pregnant?

  1. I recommend creating an Amazon and Babylist registry and taking advantage of their free baby boxes. These boxes are especially helpful if you’re building a baby stash slowly or on a tight budget. They come with stuff for baby and mom and were totally worth it throughout all three of my pregnancies.

What are more freebies I can take advantage of while pregnant?

There are plenty of other freebies that you should check out and sign up for while pregnant.
